Dr Reza Abdullah qualified in Medicine from Guys’, Kings’ and St Thomas’ Medical School, London with MBBS and BSc(Hons).
He trained in respiratory and general internal medicine in the North West London Deanery, including Imperial College London and the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Following completion of his training, he undertook a clinical fellowship in pulmonary intervention and pleural disease at St Mary’s Hospital at Imperial College NHS Trust, London.
Dr Reza Abdullah is established as a Respiratory Consultant at University College London Hospital, where he runs a sub-specialty service in pleural disease, lung cancer and pulmonary nodule surveillance as well as general respiratory and inpatient support.
He performs regular diagnostic procedures including bronchoscopy, EBUS and pleural intervention and co-chairs multi-disciplinary team meetings with radiology, surgical and oncology colleagues.

Dr Reza Abdullah is committed to providing medical education and training to undergraduate and post graduate doctors, as well as collaborating to develop research interests and attending national and international conferences.
He has a particular interest in service development with a focus on a patient centred approach and supporting patients throughout their care journey.

Chronic respiratory symptoms are a major source of concern for many patients, and all unexplained coughs lasting for greater than 3 weeks, warrant rapid and urgent investigation to ensure no serious diagnoses are missed.
Many individuals suffer from persistent symptoms of breathlessness, wheeze or recurrent infections which can be managed promptly and definitively, with the appropriate care and investigation.
I look after patients with a wide variety of underlying general respiratory conditions, including post-infectious symptoms, asthma and smoking related airways disease, as well as chronic respiratory infections leading to bronchiectasis.
I have long-standing expertise in the care of patients undergoing diagnostics for lung cancer, as well as the management of incidental CT findings including lung nodules which may herald early lung cancers and require surveillance, and all pleural related conditions such as pleural effusions and pneumothoraces.
I understand that timing is crucial for all patients undergoing respiratory investigations, with rapid and accurate diagnostics, the key to providing both reassurance, as well as ensuring that treatment is initiated promptly.
I am able offer rapid access to diagnostic tests such as lung function and CT imaging, as well as more specialist investigations including bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultra and lymph node biopsy (EBUS) as well as pleural effusion drainage.
Bronchoscopy and EBUS allow for direct sampling of underlying lung abnormalities, providing both a definitive result, for example in the diagnosis of respiratory infections, as well as staging information which confirm if and how far a lung cancer may have spread.
These day-case procedures are undertaken at centres of excellence in central London, which ensure patients receive the best available care.

Putting the patient's wishes and best interests first, these are some of my core guiding principles. Through clear and effective communication, and understanding their priorities and concerns, I aim to support my patient through their care journey, allowing them to maintain control over their health decisions.
I offer a lung cancer screening package, which identifies those at a higher risk of lung cancer, through smoking and/or family history, to undergo a safe, low-dose CT chest to exclude any lung cancers, or any small pulmonary nodules which may herald an early lung cancer. This proactive approach allows for the early pick up of lung cancers, such that they can undergo prompt, and most importantly, curative treatment to be cancer-free.
I work collaboratively, with experts across multiple specialties including radiology, thoracic surgery, oncology and cardiology, to ensure patients receive the best, and consensus opinion for the management of their condition.
